PART 66 AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE LICENSE

Important information for holders of Part-66 Aircraft Maintenance Licenses

Pursuant to the Commission Regulation of 2018 August 14 No. (EU) 2018/1142 amending Regulation (EU) no. 1321/2014, according to the requirements of point 66.A.45 h(ii)3 of Annex III (Part 66):

“A subcategory B1.2 aircraft maintenance license holder holding a Group 3 rating endorsement or a category B3 aircraft maintenance license holder holding a “not more than 2,000 kg MTOM unpressurized piston-engined airplanes” endorsement shall be deemed to be in compliance L1 and L2 subcategory licenses, which specify all relevant qualifications and the same restrictions as those specified in the B1.2 / B3 category license, requirements for issuing.”;”

Example : a person with a Part – 66 Aircraft maintenance license with a B1.2 subcategory aircraft type entry “Full group 3” or “Group 3 – Piston engine airplanes not assigned to group 1 / Group 3 – piston engine airplanes other than those in Group 1” with structural limitations:
“B1.2 except / excluding:
– Pressurized airplanes;
– Composite-structure airplanes;
– Wooden-structure airplanes;
– Airplanes with metal-tubing structure covered with fabric.”
and implementing the requirements of point 66.A.20(b), in accordance with point 66.A.45h (ii) 3, he can perform maintenance of aircraft groups 3 and 4 (Gliders, Motorized gliders, ELA 1 airplanes) of the Metal Structure Aircraft.

This requirement does not apply to Part 66 aircraft maintenance licenses that have been converted and have limitations (non-structural) for categories B1.2 and or B3.

We remind you that the holder of a ship maintenance license can use the granted right only when:

  1. complies with the applicable requirements of Annex I (Part M) and Annex II (Part 145); and
  2. has accumulated six months of maintenance experience in the last two years in accordance with the rights specified in the aircraft maintenance license or meets the requirements necessary to grant these rights; and
  3. has sufficient competence to approve the maintenance of the aircraft concerned; and
  4. can write, read and speak sufficiently well in the language(s) in which the technical documentation is drawn up and the procedure for issuing the aircraft release to service certificate is set out.’
